Psalm of Misery is deeply inspired by the writings of Georges Bataille(1897-1962) of which this project derives its’ name and forms the nucleus of this project. In particular, reference to his writings around the formation of L’Acephale in the 1930’s forms the crux of this piece. In particular, his writing around the time that he, along with a fellow cadre of co-conspirators, initiated the journal and secret society, Acephale. These writings have a particular sense of loss for those societal elements that were abandoned by a quest for modernity. Instead, what we now face is quantity over quality, a sterile religious belief system “uncorrupted” by the more base elements of society and rationality drenched in blind obedience. To this misery we say, “Slit the throat of man.”
lyrics
Psalm Of Misery
Misery
Knot the noose of the hanged man
Melancholy gripping the throat
The night reaches out
To choke the haunted castle of memory
This psalm of misery
Tongue heavy with coffins
The black wings of the grave
Grown decrepit with rage
This psalm of misery
Our dead mouths sing
Seizing the throat
This psalm of misery
Misery
The world’s eyes are blind skies
Black sun in an impenetrable night
The hard stupidity of man
Will greet the law of the knife
Night falls within us
Verbannt, vergessen und gefesselt
Die Klinge berührt die zuckende Zunge
Stählerne Gräber bergen gläserne Wut
Die eisige Stirn fühlt die gleissende Glut
(Banished and bound, and forgotten
The blade touches the twitching tongue
Steel graves conceal vitreous rage
The ice cold forehead feels the luminous blaze)
You will bite the horrible sun
You will pay for your share of hate
Cast the lime on our open graves
You will bite the horrible sun
You will pay for your share of hate
You will bite the horrible sun
You will pay for your share of hate
Slit the throat of man

Jordan Vauvert

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it.
That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten
