about
Runenberg is inspired by the writings of the early Romantic German writer Ludwig Tieck (1773-1853). While researching the literature of German Romanticism, I stumbled across a short story he wrote in the early 1800's. The lyrics come from Ronald Taylor's translation and are featured towards the beginning of the story itself. Surreal and uncanny, Der Runenberg is a strange little myth/fairy tale that has held a strong place in my heart - hence the song. Runenberg was originally written in 2005-6 and later revised and adapted by the current lineup.

Runenberg

Where are the spirits of old
That hide in mountain glade?
The rock laments in the shade
Of gorges damp and cold
Rivulets tumble down
And break upon the stones
Glittering like a crown
With gemstones red and brown
The traveler hears their call
And sees the waters fall
Come, Ye spirits bold
In glory as of old
And gather from the deep
Those who lie in sleep
Command the hearts and minds of all
Who crave the solace of your glance
And through your mystic will enhance
The joy of those who heed your call… Runenberg
What lies at the heart of man… Runenberg
Sun sinking in the west
Dusk stole over ground
Disconsolate and deep in thought
Stars beckoning thither
A dark swelling sea
The call of Runenberg
…Runenberg…
The album description mentions an “emotional apex.” That’s really the difference between Stare and the band’s previous albums. Ulcerate was always supremely technically proficient. I just didn’t care all that much. Their growth has come from making music you will feel. Metallurgical Fire
never been a big death metal fan but this is actually super accessible for the genre, has fun concepts, and personally i'm always a fan of albums with short tracklists and huge runtimes (for individual songs) Great time, good jumping on point for newbies too. alienasu
With their deviant kind of Black Metal, White Ward are far away from mediocre. If you’re looking for something different and sophisticated try these guys! You won‘t be disappointed!
Jordan Vauvert
